Roshni Scheme to Return in New Form; Power Amnesty Extended by One Year
CM Omar Abdullah’s Key Announcements
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently announced that the Roshni Scheme will be introduced in a new form. Alongside this, he revealed several important decisions:
- Increase in MLA Development Fund: The Constituency Development Fund for MLAs has been increased from ₹3 crore to ₹4 crore.
- Power Amnesty Scheme Extension: The amnesty scheme for domestic consumers of the Power Development Department has been extended for another year.
- House Committee for MLA Salary Hike: A House Committee will be set up to consider a possible increase in the salaries of MLAs, following the model of Parliament.
Details of the Power Amnesty Scheme
- The interest on unpaid bills for consumers availing the amnesty scheme will be waived off.
- Consumers will need to pay only the principal amount along with the monthly rent.
- This is the seventh amnesty scheme, described by CM Omar Abdullah as a one-time amnesty.
The CM emphasized that while the amnesty scheme offers relief to some, it is essentially a penalty for those who pay their bills on time.
